Only time and research can show if the theory that enneagram behavioural types or subtypes relate to specific genes. To achieve this goal, brain neurotransmitters and their receptor characteristics will need to be identified and measured. Perhaps the observed characteristics belong to brain pathways - collections of neurones rather than aspects of the individual neurones themselves.
This model is “our” solution to the problem we have set ourselves. We make no more claims than this. Take it or leave it.
The theory is based on observation but it is possible with hindsight that we may find that some of the enneagram descriptors are incorrect. It may be impossible to explain every observation since every deduction made about observations may not be wholly correct.
This theory represents a starting point. Many people may criticize for this web site upsetting the enneagram teachings. However, the enneagram is a model like any other, just a tool to help us all understand the world and the people within it. There is no guarantee that all that has been written about the enneagram may be correct. Correctness demands that truths must link to other truths, not be truths in themselves. The gene theory of enneagrams proposes that there may be a way to explain human behaviours which relates chemistry, genetics and behaviour.

To be truth a model must give consistent answers in all these areas. A model must be able to incorporate new data. I think there is real truth in the observations of the enneagram, hence I’ve developed a theory to explain it.
The gene theory also gives a new method of looking at things based on how the genes work.
“Sixes” have the thinking gene. They think plan and ponder and wonder at the world. A gene for thinking in colour. Twos have a heavy bent , if a little slow to action. Thinking a lot about how they can help things to go forward translates into the enneagram image of the two as a ”supporter”. But from a genetic perspective, there may be a slightly truer may to look at this enneagram type.
Enneagram Threes, Fours, fives and especially "sevens" have the "GO" gene, prompting action and activity.
Enneagram Eights are characterised by a gene that limits options- creating easy choices from a limited palette- making decisions easy indeed. Deciding genes!
